Project Description
Undoubtedly, this digital era has affected our lives in many ways, among which education occupies a large part. All our students are now digital natives, meaning they are accustomed to the high-speed standards of this digital era. They live in an environment closed to the Internet and are much different from their peers were 10 years ago. These technologies affect the way we live, work and learn. According to the results of PISA 2012, it is suggested that students who use computers moderately at school tend to have slightly better learning outcomes than students who use computers infrequently. The use of computers and similar technological tools in education is a necessity today. Within our project, we will present several Web 2.0 tools to both students and teachers and how to use them in educational environments. Web 2.0 tools enable active and collaborative learning. For our students to fully engage in the future workforce, our educational systems must provide them with the skills and capabilities for 21st-century citizenship: global awareness, creativity, collaborative problem-solving, self-directed learning. In the current world, it is impossible to use traditional teaching/learning techniques to teach 21st-century technology-savvy ‘connected’ students.
Objectives
- Analyse and transform the pace and teaching-learning techniques in educational environments, overcoming traditional methods to better adapt to ‘digital native’ students.
- Improve student learning outcomes by incorporating Web 2.0 tools and active and collaborative methodologies in the classroom.
- Develop key 21st-century competencies: critical thinking, collaborative work, problem-solving and self-directed learning within school and VET contexts.
- Create open materials and resources on new methodologies and uses of technology in the classroom, to facilitate the replication of the model by other centres and teachers.
Implementation
Project implementation is based on the design, testing and evaluation of methodological innovation pathways in classrooms, in which teachers and trainers introduce Web 2.0 tools (collaborative platforms, blogs, forums, virtual learning environments and other digital applications) to foster active and collaborative learning, combining face-to-face and online training for teachers, where good practices are explored, didactic sequences with these tools are designed and implemented in real groups of students; results are analysed through indicators of participation, motivation and performance, and good practices, methodological guides and didactic materials are documented, published in open format and disseminated through European networks of centres and trainers for use and adaptation in other educational contexts.
Expected Results
Higher level of student engagement and performance in the learning process, thanks to the introduction of active methodologies and meaningful digital technology.
Improvement of teachers' and trainers' digital pedagogical competence, with greater capacity to design and manage collaborative learning activities in digital environments.
Availability of a set of open materials and resources (guides, didactic sequences, examples of Web 2.0 tool usage) to drive methodological innovation in formal education and VET.
Strengthening of transnational cooperation between European centres for the dissemination and continuous improvement of teaching models centred on learning paces and techniques better adapted to the digital age.
