Disability Youth Worker
Project Description
This project focuses on promoting digital education and 21st-century skills to ensure that young people with disabilities achieve full socio-economic inclusion. The initiative seeks to enhance autonomy and active citizenship by developing critical thinking, media literacy and entrepreneurial spirit among those at risk of exclusion. Through the creation of two specific training itineraries, Youth Worker with Disability and Digital Enterprise, participants will acquire advanced technical skills such as the use of blogs and business advisory tools. In addition to improving employability, the programme trains trainers to implement innovative learning methods that strengthen cooperation between various sectors. The ultimate objective is to empower marginalised young people to lead their own lives, combating discrimination and poverty by promoting values of freedom and diversity. By integrating new technologies and practical activities, the project ensures that both students and professionals develop lasting capacities to participate actively in contemporary European society.
Objectives
- Develop specific youth work competences oriented towards disability, so that professionals can design and accompany inclusive and accessible activities for young people with disabilities.
- Improve the participation and empowerment of young people with disabilities in the youth field, promoting their social inclusion, their voice and their leading role in the design of activities.
- Strengthen the capacity of youth workers to detect physical, communicative and social barriers and apply good practices of accessibility and personalised support.
- Create training materials and open resources on inclusive youth work with disability, useful for trainers, youth organisations and disability organisations.
Implementation
The implementation of the project is based on the design and application of a training and mentoring programme for youth workers, which combines face-to-face and online modules on a rights-based approach, accessibility, augmentative and alternative communication, and community mediation with young people with disabilities, alongside the development of a practical training itinerary in which events, workshops and activities specifically designed for young people with disabilities are developed; participants design, implement and evaluate these activities with the support of experts and disability organisations, documenting good practices, pedagogical materials and evaluation tools, which are then integrated into an open resources platform for use and replication by other professionals and organisations in the youth sector.
Expected Results
A greater number of youth workers with specific competences to work with young people with disabilities, capable of planning and executing inclusive activities.
Greater participation and visibility of young people with disabilities in the youth field, with opportunities for a leading role and leadership in common activities.
Existence of a structured and certifiable training course in “Disability Youth Worker”, with materials, methodological guides and open resources for the training of professionals.
Improved transnational cooperation between youth organisations and disability entities, to disseminate and replicate the model in different European contexts.
