Project Description

The project Transmission of Experience through Digitally Skilled Senior Mentors to Apprentices (TEaTIME) is a research-driven project aimed at older people who are considered digitally under-skilled but good at their current job and who wish to pass on their profession to younger generations. Older adults (our goal is to see them after the project as “digitally skilled senior mentors”) will receive three personalised training modules, namely; Mentoring, Generational Conflict and Digital Competence, which will enable them to learn to communicate with the younger generation, to use digital devices with ease and to pass on their professions to young mentees.

Implementation

The implementation of the project is based on the selection and training of a group of older people as senior mentors, who are provided with training in digital competences, online communication and mentoring techniques to accompany young or adult mentees in different areas (studies, employment, personal projects), combining virtual and face-to-face sessions with co-creation dynamics, problem solving and goal planning; the mentor-mentee pairs build structured support itineraries, which are documented and analysed to extract good practices, teaching materials and methodological guides that are published in open format and disseminated through a platform or network of youth, adult education and social services organisations for replication in other European contexts.

Expected Results

A greater number of older people active as mentors, with digital competences and support methodologies to guide young people and adults in learning and employability processes.

Improved guidance and empowerment of mentees, through personalised support based on the experience and good practices of their senior mentors.

Availability of a structured and validated intergenerational mentoring model, together with open materials, guides and resources on mentoring and the use of digital tools.

Strengthening of transnational cooperation between youth, adult education and social services organisations for the dissemination and consolidation of this model of experience transmission.
